Hey everyone, Christian here from CertSmart Pathways. If you're 15–22 and staring at job ads that all say "experience required", I get how frustrating that is. I’ve been there.
Most of us leave school with zero real work history, and suddenly every ad feels impossible. But here’s the truth: employers don’t always need years of experience — they need to know you’re keen, reliable, and willing to learn.
Here are 5 things that actually work right now (2025–2026):
Do a short, practical micro-credential We have free courses in barista skills, admin basics, retail display or safety shows you’ve already started learning. Add the certificate to your CV — instant proof you’re proactive.
Volunteer or do a trial shift Cafes, op shops, community events — even one shift gives you something real to talk about in interviews.
Build a simple LinkedIn profile Headline like "Aspiring Cafe Worker | Completed Barista Basics | Open to Opportunities in [your city]". Recruiters are on there daily.
Ask for a casual chat, not a job Message a local business owner: "Hi, I’m looking to get into hospitality. Would you mind if I popped in for 5 minutes to ask about what you look for?" Most say yes.
Nail the basics employers actually care about Show up on time, reply quickly, be polite, know how to email and use Teams/Zoom. These beat fancy quals every time for entry roles.
You don’t need a degree or 2 years experience to start. You just need to show you’re ready to show up and learn.
Which one of these feels most doable for you right now? Drop a comment — happy to give more specific tips.
